The exclusion
“Suitable for all models of the series 5 except one.”
That is the second listing on this shelf to state what its part does not fit,
and it is worth the same observation as the first: a series name covers several
deck designs, and a moulded insert seals one opening.
Naming the exception is a manufacturer accepting fewer sales in exchange for
fewer wrong orders. On a shelf where the machine name is the whole
specification, it is the most valuable thing a listing can do.
“Falls back into the sward”
The maker’s own phrase, and it is the correct test of whether mulching is
working.
Clippings cut finely enough drop between the standing grass and disappear
within days. Clippings cut coarsely lie on top of it in rows, yellow the
lawn underneath, and have to be raked.
Which of those happens is decided by the blade profile and the deck shape —
which is why this is a kit and not a plug.
Blade and insert, itemised
The second of two listings here to state what is in the box.
A blade is the greater part of the cost of any mulching conversion, and a kit
containing one will always sit well above a wedge. The price on this shelf
ranges from a plug at under sixteen euros to this at over eighty, and almost
all of that gap is a piece of steel.
And the third benefit the listing names
“Removes the need to dispose of the clippings.”
That is the one owners actually notice. No catcher to empty, no walk to the
heap, no heap.
It is also the reason mulching fails when it fails: on a lawn left too long,
there is more material than any deck can disperse, and it ends up on the
surface instead of in it.
