Horsepower on two shelves

HECHT is on two shelves here and both machines are engines chosen for work rather than for tidiness.

The tiller is a petrol machine with a wide working width, quoted in horsepower — a unit this site prints as the maker gives it rather than converting, because a converted number is a different number and horsepower on a small engine is not obtained the way a watt rating is.

The shredder is the entry that stands out. Its stated maximum branch diameter is well above what most domestic machines claim, and that figure deserves the caveat this site attaches to every one of them: the maximum branch diameter is not defined by the shredder safety standard, it is a manufacturer’s statement about its own machine, and it assumes fresh green wood fed straight. Dry, forked or knotted material of the same diameter is a different job.

Both machines carry a guaranteed sound power level, and on the shredder it is at the top end of everything on this site.
