No. A cylinder mower shears grass between a moving blade and a fixed one, and grass that has grown too long lies over rather than standing into the cylinder. These machines want cutting little and often, and they are unforgiving of a fortnight’s absence.
Eventually, and it is a different job from a rotary blade — the cylinder and the bottom blade are set to each other. Whether this one is a contact or a non-contact design is not stated in the listing.
It is small, and on this kind of machine that matters less than it sounds: a cylinder mower cutting 10 mm off a short lawn every few days produces very little material. On a lawn that has been left, it fills constantly.
