A tiller’s tines are its drive: they pull it forward when they bite. That is fine in the middle of a plot and a genuine problem at the end of one, where the machine has dug in against a fence and has to come back. Without reverse, that means stopping the engine and lifting a machine that is front-heavy and full of soil.
A separate gearbox for it — rather than a belt trick — is the proper way to do it.

What goes unsaid in the listing — and no listing on this shelf does — is whether the machine has the traction to pull 85 cm of tines through heavy clay. Width is a capability of the tine shaft, and the soil decides.

Because the tines are the drive. A tiller that has dug itself into a corner cannot be pulled backwards by hand — the blades are in the ground and the machine is heavy. Reverse walks it out. Without it the answer is to stop the engine and lift.
Tine sets are added or removed to change the width, in three configurations. Whether the machine pulls the full 85 cm through your soil depends on the soil, and no listing addresses that — width is a capability rather than a promise.
They are the reason to buy this class of machine rather than a fixed tiller: a plough body, a ridger and a weeding brush turn one engine into several tools. All of them are stated as separate purchases and none is in the carton.
