What the maker prints on its own page
A 100 m boundary line of high-quality LLDPE with 24 strands of tinned copper
inside, stated as low resistance with long-lasting stable conductivity, safe
and not overheating. Outer diameter 2.7 mm, inner diameter 1.17 mm. The ground
pegs are stated as durable PP and the waterproof connectors as gel-filled.
The set contains 100 m of boundary line, ground pegs, 10 cable connectors and
10 connecting clamps. Designed for outdoor use and stated to withstand rain,
sun, snow and frost. The flexible wire is easy to lay and rolls onto a spool,
and the green colour blends into the lawn.
Compatible with a long list of named robot brands, working as a boundary,
guide or search wire.
The title states 50 pegs; the feature text states 40.
The one figure nobody else prints
Inner diameter 1.17 mm.
Every listing on this shelf quotes an outer diameter of 2.7 mm, and that figure
includes the insulation. What carries the signal is the metal inside, and the
inner diameter is the only honest measure of how much there is.
Two cables both sold as “2.7 mm” can have quite different conductors under
different thicknesses of sheath. This is the only listing here that lets you
tell.
24 strands of tinned copper
Stranded rather than solid, and copper rather than copper-clad aluminium.
Stranded wire survives being walked on, bent round a corner and pulled through
a spool without work-hardening and snapping. Solid core is cheaper and less
forgiving.
Copper conducts better than copper-clad aluminium at the same section, which
matters at the far side of a long loop.
The contradiction
50 pegs in the title, 40 in the features.
This page prints both and does not choose. Either way it is one peg every two to
two and a half metres over 100 m, which is sparse: the usual practice is
roughly one a metre on straight runs and closer at corners.
Expect to buy more pegs whichever number is right.
Gel-filled connectors
The correct type. A boundary wire joint sits in wet soil for years, and a
twisted-and-taped joint corrodes until the resistance climbs and the signal
fails — intermittently, months later, looking like a failing robot.
Ten inline connectors and ten branch connectors is a kit assembled by somebody
who has laid a loop.
