A different object from most of this shelf
Five of the seven hoses here are conventional: a fixed length of PVC with a
yarn reinforcement, the same length wet or dry.
This is an expandable. A latex inner tube inside a loose textile sleeve;
water pressure stretches the latex, the sleeve limits how far, and the whole
thing goes from about seven and a half metres to about 22.5 metres — three
times — and then shrinks back when the tap goes off.
Comparing the two on price per metre is meaningless, and this page does not do
it.
What the length actually means
The 22.5 m is a pressurised length.
That is not a trick, it is how the product works, and it is genuinely useful:
the hose you store is a third of the hose you use, and it weighs nothing empty.
It does have consequences nobody mentions in a listing. An expandable under
pressure is taut, so it pulls things over on its way back. It also cannot be
left part-uncoiled the way a conventional hose can — it is short or it is long,
and nothing in between holds.
The best-equipped box here
Named in the listing: the hose, a seven-pattern spray gun, three spare
seals, PTFE tape, a hose hanger, 1/2 and 3/4 inch tap adapters, and a hose
coupler.
Two of those tell you something.
Three spare seals and PTFE tape are not generosity. On an expandable
hose the fittings are the failure point: the latex core is bonded into a
plastic collar that absorbs the entire contraction force every time the tap
goes off, thousands of times a season. The seals at that joint weep first.
Supplying spares is a manufacturer being realistic about its own product, and
it is better than a listing that pretends the joint does not exist.
The listing says the hose withstands pressures up to 10 bar. It does not say
whether that is a working pressure or a burst pressure, and this page does not
decide for it.
For comparison, the one product on this shelf that publishes both gives 9 bar
working and 18 bar burst. Read next to that, 10 bar is a modest number either
way — and domestic mains does not come close to it.
Where it belongs
A balcony, a courtyard, a roof terrace, a small town garden.
Anywhere the real constraint is where the hose lives when it is not in use,
this wins outright: a 22-metre hose that stores in a bag on a hook.
Where the constraint is a long dragged run over rough ground several times a
week, a braided hose lasts longer, and this shelf has five of them.
