the ratio: 1.57, 1.63 and 1.74 across three different drums.
Sand is not a tweak, it is half again to three quarters again the working
weight.
With the empty weight added — 8.4 kg — this roller works at 54.4 kg on
water and 80.4 kg on sand.

Why per centimetre is the number to compare
Two rollers of the same total weight do different things if one is wider.
What presses the ground is the weight carried along the line where the drum
touches it, so the useful figure is total weight divided by working width, and
every product on this shelf that publishes enough can be reduced to it.
Three of them land at 0.95, 0.97 and 1.00. One lands at 1.50.
This is the lightest of the group per centimetre, which means it presses least
at a width that still covers ground quickly.
The scraper, adjustable and on both sides
The best-specified scraper on the shelf, and it is worth explaining why
“both sides” is not a throwaway.
Rolling a lawn is not a series of forward passes. It is forward, stop, pull
back, turn, forward again. A blade fixed to clear the drum in one direction
does nothing on every reverse, and a reverse is when the drum is turning
against the clay it just picked up.
Adjustable matters as the drum wears and as conditions change: set close
for wet clay, backed off for dry ground where a tight blade is just drag.

That is what you handle in the shed, lift over a step, and push back into a
corner in October. Filled, every roller on this shelf is heavy enough to be
awkward; empty, this one is 8.4 kg for a 57 cm drum, and the heaviest here

When to roll, and when not
Press seed into soil contact after sowing or overseeding. Settle new turf.
Flatten a surface lifted by frost, after levelling it by hand.
Do not roll as routine maintenance, and do not roll saturated clay at all. A
drum at 80 kg over wet clay drives the air out of the root zone, and the
family next door on this site exists to undo exactly that.
