What the maker prints on its own page
An air filter replacing eight stated references, with replacements listed for
two further brands’ part numbers. The pre-filter replaces three further
references, again with equivalents for another brand.
Suitable for twelve named engine designations, described as 12.5 to 17 PS
single-cylinder engines. Height 3 inches, length 7¼ inches, width 2 3/16 inches
at the narrow end and 2 7/8 inches at the wide end.
The pre-filter, and why it is half the product
A foam sleeve that fits over the main element.
It catches the coarse material — chaff, grass, the larger dust — before it
reaches the paper. The paper then spends its life on the fine particles it was
designed for, and lasts several times as long.
The two are separate parts with separate references, they wear at different
rates, and the foam one washes while the element under it generally does not.
Selling them together is correct, and listing both sets of references is what a
parts seller does.
A tapered element
Width 2 3/16 inches at one end and 2 7/8 at the other.
Air filter housings are shaped around whatever fits beside the carburettor, and
a tapered element is common. Publishing both widths is not: most listings
give one figure and leave a buyer to discover that the filter is narrower at
one end than the slot it has to enter.
The engine class
12.5 to 17 PS, single cylinder.
That is larger than any walk-behind mower on this site — the biggest petrol
machine here is 7 PS — and it places this filter on ride-on machines and
heavier equipment.
It is on this shelf because it is catalogued as a mower air filter and because
the engine families it names appear on garden machinery. A buyer with a push
mower needs one of the smaller filters here.
