Sealed seams
The single most useful construction detail on this shelf, and only this listing
mentions it.
A coated fabric is waterproof across its surface. Then it is sewn, and every
stitch is a hole through the coating. On a cover draped over the flat top of a
mower deck — where water stands rather than runs — those holes are where it
gets in.
Taping or welding the seams closes them. It costs a little to do and it is the
difference between a mower that is dry under the cover and one that is damp
under a cover, which is worse than no cover at all.
Two fixings, for two problems
A drawcord at the hem gathers the bottom edge, so wind cannot get under and
lift the cover off.
A buckle strap goes around the bulk, so the sheet cannot balloon and work
itself loose.
They are not redundant — they address different behaviours — and this is the
only cover here with both.
Damp under a cover
Worth saying on this shelf, because it is the thing covers get blamed for.
A cover put over a wet machine traps the moisture against it. On a steel
deck that is worse than leaving it uncovered.
Scrape the deck, let the machine dry, and then cover it. Every cover here is
a barrier in both directions.
What goes unpublished
Any fabric weight or denier. Two other covers here state a denier and one
states a weight in grams per square metre; this one describes the cloth and
gives no number for it.
