Sprayers and flame, from a specialist

GLORIA has made pressure sprayers for a long time, and the two entries here sit on either side of the same job.

The sprayer is a five-litre pump type with a stated capacity and a lance. What separates a sprayer that lasts from one that does not is the seals and whether replacements exist, and on this shelf that is a real dividing line: an unbranded sprayer whose O-ring perishes is a sprayer thrown away.

The weed burner is the other route to the same weeds. A gas torch with a piezo ignition and a stated flame temperature, which is a figure worth reading carefully — a temperature at the flame is not a temperature delivered to a plant, and what kills a weed is the cell rupture from a brief pass rather than burning it away.

That shelf also contains an instructive intruder the survey caught: a pack of gas cartridges listed among the burners because its title named the burner as one of its uses. A word of compatibility is not a word of category, and it was removed.
