turbogrün

Seed, feed and soil, sold by the square metre

turbogrün occupies three of the treatment shelves here: a grass seed for overseeding, an autumn fertiliser, and a peat-free lawn soil with a starter feed in it.

What links them is the unit. Each is sold as a mass or a volume for a stated area, and unlike the square-metre figure on a mower listing, this one is physical: a rate per square metre multiplied by the contents.

That makes this part of the site the easiest to compare and the easiest to get wrong. Two bags with the same area claim can carry very different quantities at very different rates, and the number on the front is only true if the product is applied at the rate on the back.

A fourth product in the range turned up during the survey and is not on this site: a granulate described as a soil activator and also as a lawn aerator. The word in German names what the product does to the soil rather than what it is, and a bag of granules is not a tool. It was left out of the aerator shelf deliberately.
